CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Eastern Kentucky University softball team got back on track sweeping a pair of contests against the College of Charleston on Saturday in Charleston. Â

Eastern Kentucky (2-2) won game one 7-1, before knocking off Charleston in game two 13-3.

In game one the College of Charleston (0-2) got on the board first in the bottom half of the first inning. A pair of walks and an RBI single by Shealyn Starks gave the Cougars an early 1-0 lead.

That lead would hold all the way until the seventh inning.

The Colonels were down to their last out when freshman
Jasmine Miller doubled to left field to bring home fellow freshman
Kara Gunter, tying the game at 1-1 and sending it to extra innings.
Â
That is when the Colonel bats exploded.
Â
EKU scored six runs. An
Ariyana Miranda sac fly and back-to-back RBI singles pushed the Colonels' lead to three, 4-1.
Mollie Paulick did the rest of the damage. Paulick sent an 0-2 pitch over the left center field fence to extend the lead to 7-1.

Paulick (1-0) picked up the win in the circle tossing three and one-third innings of scoreless softball with five strikeouts.
Samantha Reynoso tossed three and one-third innings as well with six strikeouts.

Zoe Mihalicz went 2-for-4 with one RBI. Paulick went 1-for-2 with one home run and three RBIs.

In game two, the Colonels struck for one in first, one in the third, four in the third, three in the sixth and four in the seventh to cruise past Charleston.

Sammi Miller got things started with a leadoff double in the top of the first. After
Jeanay Riley walked, a sac bunt by Miranda and a ground out by
Vianna Barron brought home Miller and gave Eastern the early 1-0 lead.

In the top of the third inning, Riley got things started with a double to left center, her first college hit. Barron followed suit with a double to left field that brought home Riley and gave Eastern a 2-0 lead.

After a single by
Jasmine Miller and a walk by Sanders,
Sammi Miller again delivered with her second double of the game to score two and push the EKU lead to 4-0. A couple walks and a wild pitch pushed the lead to 6-0 after three and a half innings.

The Colonels pushed three more across in the top of the sixth with an RBI single by Mihalicz and a two-run double by
Jasmine Miller.

Sammi Miller went 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBIs. Barron was 2-for-3 with one double and two RBIs.

The Cougars pushed one across in the fifth and two in the sixth.

Tori Peterson (1-0) tossed five and one-third innings allowing three runs and striking out one.
Jaelyn Sanders closed the game out tossing that last one and two-thirds.

Eastern wraps up its Charleston swing with a doubleheader against Charleston Southern tomorrow. First pitch against the Buccaneers is scheduled for noon.
