RICHMOND, Ky.  – The Eastern Kentucky University women's basketball team's fell against Austin Peay, 65-49, Monday night at McBrayer Arena.

Austin Peay (12-8, 10-6 OVC) used a big third quarter, outscoring the Colonels 19-10, to extend its lead to 48-37 and not look back.

Eastern (8-14, 7-11 OVC) did not go down without a fight though. The Colonels chipped the lead to six points, 53-47, after the
Bria Bass lay up but could never get any closer.

The Govs answered with a 10-0 run capped off by a D'Shara Booker free-throw to take the lead, 63-47, and take full control of the game.

The two teams traded points for much of the first quarter, but the Colonels ended the quarter on 5-0 run to tie the game at 19-19 after one quarter. Both teams struggled in the second quarter, but the Govs scored the final four points of the first half to take a 29-27 lead into the break.

Bass and
Jayla Johnson led the way for the Colonels scoring a team-best 13 points each. Wingler chipped in 12 points and four rebounds.

Booker led the way posting a game-best 21 points and nine rebounds for the Govs. Brandi Ferby had 10 points off the bench.

Eastern shot 34 percent from the field. UT Martin shot 41 percent from the field on the contest.

The Colonels shot 13-of-15 from the free throw line. Â

Eastern Kentucky continues its homestand on Thursday when the Colonels welcome in Belmont to McBrayer Arena. Tip-off is scheduled for 5 p.m.
