RICHMOND, Ky. – The Eastern Kentucky University women's basketball team defeated Tennessee State, 69-64, in the Colonels' season finale on Saturday at McBrayer Arena.

Jayla Johnson led the way with 25 points and five rebounds. Freshman
Kendall Wingler scored 21 points, to go along with six rebounds and three steals. Johnson and Wingler are the first EKU teammates to score 20 points in the same game since January of 2018.

The game was tied, 23-23, following a layup by TSU's Kennedy Davis with 7:19 to go in the second quarter. EKU then reeled off a 15-5 run. A bucket by Wingler ignited the run, and three free throws by Wingler ended it, giving the Colonels a 10-point advantage, 38-28, with 53 seconds left in the first half.

Tennessee State scored the final five points of the half, cutting the EKU lead to five, 38-33, at the break.

The Colonels held the Lady Tigers at bay through much of the second half; however, a late 5-0 run brought TSU to within two with under a minute to play. An offensive rebound and put-back by Jaden Wrightsell made it 66-64 with 37 seconds to go.

On EKU's ensuing possession, freshman
Alice Recanati buried a three-pointer from the corner with six seconds on the clock to seal the victory.

Wrightsell paced Tennessee State with 20 points.

Eastern stifled the Lady Tigers to 16.7 percent (4-of-24) shooting from deep in the victory.

The Colonels won the rebounding battle on the day, 38-32.

EKU wraps up the season with a record of 9-15 (8-12 OVC).
