JACKSONVILLE, Ala. – The Eastern Kentucky University volleyball team fell in straight sets on Sunday afternoon against first place Jacksonville State.

The Gamecocks won by scores of 25-13, 25-16, and 25-19.

In set one, the Colonels jumped out to an early 11-10 lead after a
Mikayla Logan kill. Jacksonville State responded with a 11-0 run to take a 21-11 lead over EKU. A Kaylie Milton kill finished off the first set for JSU.

Jacksonville State got off to a quick start in set two, but a service ace by
Josie Schmitendorf cut the Gamecock lead to 10-8. JSU responded with an 8-3 run after a kill by Milton to take a 18-11 lead over the Colonels. The Gamecocks took the second set, 25-16, after a Colonel error.

Eastern went toe-to-toe with the first place Gamecocks in set three and cut the JSU lead to three, 20-17 after a Logan kill. Jacksonville State answered with four straight points to take a 24-17 lead over the Colonels. EKU responded with the next two points but could never get any closer and fell in the final set 25-19.

Logan posted a team-best seven kills on the contest. Freshman setter
Audrey Eurton had five kills, 21 assists and six digs on the night.

Eastern takes on Jacksonville State again tomorrow night at Pete Mathews Coliseum. First serve is scheduled for 5 p.m. ET.
