Colonels Fall In Straight Sets On Monday Night At Jacksonville State

JACKSONVILLE, Ala. –
The Eastern Kentucky University volleyball team fell in straight sets on Monday against first place Jacksonville State.
 
The Gamecocks won by scores of 25-18, 25-14, and 25-23.
 
In set one, the Gamecocks jumped out to an early 11-3 lead after a Kaylie Milton kill. The Colonels kept chipping away and went on a 3-0 run to cut the JSU lead to three, 20-17, after back-to-back attack errors by the Gamecocks. Jacksonville State scored five of the final six points to take the opening set 25-18.
 
The two teams traded points back-and-forth to start the second set and the Colonels took a 7-5 lead after a Jovana Bulatovic kill. Jacksonville State answered back with a 13-4 run to take an 18-11 lead over the Colonels after an Addie Halverson kill. JSU scored the final two points of the set to take a 2-0 lead.
 
Eastern jumped out to an early 5-3 lead in set three after an Audrey Eurton service ace. Jacksonville State responded with a 5-1 run to take an 8-6 lead after a Colonel error. After a Katie Montgomery kill pushed the Gamecock lead to five, 18-13, EKU responded back with a 4-0 run after a Gabby Davis kill to cut the lead to one, 18-17, and forced a JSU timeout. Jacksonville State pushed its lead back to three, 24-21, after a Lena Kindermann kill. But again, the Colonels answered back. Eastern scored the next two points to cut the lead to 24-23. A Kindermann kill wrapped up the set and the match for Jacksonville State.
 
Lindsey Wilkins led the way for the Colonels with a team-best eight kills. Eurton had seven kills, 19 assists and three digs.
 
Eastern returns home to take on in-state rival Morehead State on Sunday and Monday. First serve against the Eagles is scheduled for 4 p.m.
