CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Freshman defender
Mackenzie Burdick scored her first career goal, but the Eastern Kentucky University soccer team fell at Austin Peay, 2-1, in overtime on Friday at Morgan Brothers Soccer Field.
APSU (2-4-0) took an early lead when Claire Larose scored in the 12
th minute.
EKU (1-4-0) kept the offensive pressure on and finally broke through with the equalizer in the 66
th minute. Sophomore
Michaela Iacono lifted a corner kick into a crowded box, and Burdick headed it in for her first collegiate score. It was Iacono's second assist of the season.
Sophomore
Ali Kirk fired a potential winning shot with 10 seconds left in regulation, but it went just high, and the game arrived in overtime.
With less than a minute to play in the first overtime period, Rachel Bradberry found the back of the net to give the Govs the victory.
Eastern outshot APSU 15-11 on the day. Sophomore
Maddy Lemery led all players in the game with four shots, two of which were on goal. Fellow sophomore
Audrey Anderson put all three of her shot attempts on frame.
