Baseball Drops Both Ends Of Doubleheader At SIUE

Game 1 Box Score  |  Game 2 Box Score

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. –
Eastern Kentucky lost both games of a doubleheader on Saturday at Southern Illinois Edwardsville.  SIUE won the first game 12-3 and took the second by a score of 8-5.

In game one, SIU Edwardsville broke a 0-0 tie with four runs in the bottom of the third.  Brett Johnson hit a lead-off home run and Ole Arntson had a two-run double.  Charlie Ludwick got Eastern on the board in the top of the sixth with a RBI single up the middle, but that only made it a 6-1 game.  The Cougars put the game away with five in the bottom of the sixth.

Ludwick was 2-for-4 with a run and three RBIs.  He added a two-run home run in the eighth, his fifth of the season.  Caleb Upshaw was 2-for-4 with two runs scored.

In game two, the Colonels (8-15, 3-6 OVC) grabbed the lead first with three in the fourth inning.  Ludwick and Kendal Ewell each had an RBI single and Ludwick later scored on a ground ball.  After a lead-off triple in the sixth, Daniel Harris IV scored on a single up the middle by Upshaw.  Upshaw came home later in the inning on a throwing error to make it 5-2 in favor of the visitors.

However, SIU Edwardsville (11-9, 5-4 OVC) answered with four in the bottom half of the sixth to take the lead for good.

Ewell was 3-for-4 with an RBI.  Upshaw had a 3-for-4 game with two runs and an RBI.  Johnson finished 2-for-4 with a run and three RBIs for the Cougars.

EKU was scheduled to host Kentucky State on Tuesday but that game has been postponed.  The Colonels will return to action next weekend when they host Austin Peay for a three-game series at home.  The series opener is set for Friday at 6 p.m.
