RICHMOND, Ky.
– Sophomore Michaela Iacono scored on a penalty kick in the 27 minute and senior goalkeeper Billie Clark made five saves, including one in the 88th minute, as the Eastern Kentucky University soccer team shut out Belmont, 1-0, on Tuesday.

It is the Colonels' (4-4-0) third consecutive victory.

Junior Baylee Lanter was fouled in the box 27 minutes into the game. Iacono calmly buried the ensuing PK into the bottom left corner of the net for her team-leading third goal of the season.

Iacono now leads the OVC with three game-winners this season.

The goal was all the EKU defense needed. Belmont threatened in the 88th minute when Keely Cartrett headed a cross towards the net, but Clark made a spectacular save to seal the victory.

It was the second clean sheet in the last three games for the senior.

EKU outshot Belmont, 18-13, and put eight shots on frame, compared to the Bruins' five.

Iacono, sophomore Audrey Anderson and freshman Kylie Fitzgerald all fired two shots on goal.

Iacono, senior center backs Katie Shaffer and Claire Hicks and sophomore midfielder Ali Kirk played all 90 minutes of the shutout for the Colonels.

EKU hits the road to face UT Martin on Friday night at 7 p.m. ET.
