EKU Softball Opens Up Conference Play At Home Against SIU Edwardsville On Saturday

RICHMOND, Ky. –
 The Eastern Kentucky University softball team opens Ohio Valley Conference play on Saturday against SIU Edwardsville.
 
The Colonels will play a doubleheader on Saturday followed by a single game on Sunday.
 
First pitch against the Cougars on Saturday is scheduled for 1 p.m. with game two following 30 minutes after game one. First pitch on Sunday is scheduled for 1 p.m.
 
Saturday's games will be broadcasted on ESPN+.
 
Inside the Series                                                                                                                   
-SIU Edwardsville comes into the weekend at 0-5 after opening at the South Alabama Tournament last weekend.
 
-SIUE leads the all-time series between the two teams, 15-10.
 
-The Cougars are led offensively by Ava Bieneman and Amber Stoner. Bieneman brings her team-best .471 batting average to Gertrude Hood Field this weekend. Storer is hitting .421 with one home run.
 
-SIU Edwardsville has thrown four pitchers so far in the early season. Emily Ingles is the leader in the circle for the Cougars with a 4.30 ERA in 14 and two-third innings pitched.
 
What EKU Brings:
-EKU comes into the weekend at 7-3 after winning three-of-four against Campbell over the weekend.
 
-Jasmine Miller and Sammi Miller lead the offensive charge for the Colonels.
 
-Freshman Jasmine Miller leads the team hitting .500 with four doubles, one home run and nine RBIs. Sammi Miller is hitting .400 with two doubles, two triples, three RBIs and a team-high four stolen bases.
 
-The Colonels currently rank 28th in doubles per game and 25th overall in doubles. That ranks second and first in the OVC.  
 
-Eastern ranks third in the conference in scoring and 55th in the country.
 
-EKUs defense has been stellar in the early season, ranking 60th in the country and second in the conference in fielding percentage.  
 
-Sammi Miller ranks 10th in the country in triples.
