Box Score

RICHMOND, Ky. –
Eastern Kentucky lost to Southern Illinois Edwardsville, 3-0, on Sunday at McBrayer Arena.

In the first set, SIUE used a 6-1 run to turn an 11-11 tie into a 17-12 lead.  The Cougars had three kills and an ace during the run.  A kill by Sydney Hummert finished off the spurt.  Eastern never got closer than four the rest of the set.  A kill by Savannah Christian ended the set 25-17 in favor of the visitors.

The Cougars (5-4, 5-4 OVC) scored the first four points, and seven of the first eight, in the second set and led wire-to-wire.  Hummert's kill made it 7-1.  Back-to-back kills by Rachel McDonald and Hope Everett handed the set to SIUE by a score of 25-18.

Eastern Kentucky (2-7, 2-7 OVC) scored the first point of the third set and led for much of the first half.  A kill by Jovana Bulatovic capped a 6-1 run that put the Colonels on top 16-12.  However, the Cougars scored five of the next six to tie it 17-17 and keep EKU from pulling away.  Neither team led by more than one until SIU Edwardsville scored three straight and edged in front 21-19 on a kill by McDonald.  A service error by Eastern ended the set and the match, 25-22.

Bulatovic led EKU with 10 kills.  Sydney Schoen had 13 digs.

Hummert led all players with 14 kills for the Cougars.  Christian added 10.  SIUE hit .333 as a team while holding the Colonels to .140.

The two teams will face each other again on Monday at McBrayer Arena.  The match is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
