RICHMOND, Ky. – Eastern Kentucky University's volleyball team lost to Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, 3-2, on Monday at McBrayer Arena.

In the fifth set, the two teams were trading points and were tied 9-9 after a
Lindsey Wilkins kill. SIUE responded with a quick 3-0 run to take a 12-9 lead. The two teams traded points the rest of the set and the Cougars took the final set, 15-12.

The Cougars (6-4, 6-4 OVC) fell behind early in set two, 4-1, after a ball handling error. The Colonels stormed out to a six-point lead, 18-12, after block assists by
Audrey Eurton and
Maddy Campbell to force a Cougar timeout. SIUE came storming back. The Cougars went on a 6-1 run after a Colonel attack error to cut the lead to one, 19-18. After EKU took a 22-20 lead, SIUE scored the final five points of the frame after back-to-back kills by Sydney Hummert to take the set, 25-22, and the 2-0 lead.

Eastern Kentucky (2-8, 2-8 OVC) answered back in set three. After a Sarah Armendariz kill tied the score at 10-10, the Colonels went on a 7-2 run after a
Molly Michalak kill to take a 17-12 lead over SIUE. The Cougars chipped away at the Eastern lead and cut it to two, 21-19, after a Savannah Christian kill forcing a Colonel timeout. EKU scored the final four points of the set after a Michalak kill to win the third set, 25-19.

In set four, SIUE raced out to an early 12-8 lead after an Armendariz service ace forcing an EKU timeout. That timeout came at a right time. Eastern scored the next six points after a Michalak kill to take a 14-12 lead over the Cougars. SIUE cut the Colonel lead to one, 15-14, but could never get any closer and Eastern went on to win the set, 25-21.

Michalak led EKU with 19 kills.Â
Jovana Bulatovic and Wilkins each chipped in 12 kills.
Mikayla Logan had 10.

Hummert led all players with 21 kills for the Cougars. Rachel McDonald chipped in 15 kills and 18 digs. SIUE hit .325 as a team.

Eastern hits the road next weekend to take on first-place Jacksonville State in Jacksonville. First serve on Sunday is scheduled for 4 p.m.
