Box Score

RICHMOND, Ky. –
Eastern Kentucky University's volleyball team lost to Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, 3-2, on Monday at McBrayer Arena.

In the fifth set, the two teams were trading points and were tied 9-9 after a Lindsey Wilkins kill. SIUE responded with a quick 3-0 run to take a 12-9 lead. The two teams traded points the rest of the set and the Cougars took the final set, 15-12.

The Cougars (6-4, 6-4 OVC) fell behind early in set two, 4-1, after a ball handling error. The Colonels stormed out to a six-point lead, 18-12, after block assists by Audrey Eurton and Maddy Campbell to force a Cougar timeout. SIUE came storming back. The Cougars went on a 6-1 run after a Colonel attack error to cut the lead to one, 19-18. After EKU took a 22-20 lead, SIUE scored the final five points of the frame after back-to-back kills by Sydney Hummert to take the set, 25-22, and the 2-0 lead.

Eastern Kentucky (2-8, 2-8 OVC) answered back in set three. After a Sarah Armendariz kill tied the score at 10-10, the Colonels went on a 7-2 run after a Molly Michalak kill to take a 17-12 lead over SIUE. The Cougars chipped away at the Eastern lead and cut it to two, 21-19, after a Savannah Christian kill forcing a Colonel timeout. EKU scored the final four points of the set after a Michalak kill to win the third set, 25-19.

In set four, SIUE raced out to an early 12-8 lead after an Armendariz service ace forcing an EKU timeout. That timeout came at a right time. Eastern scored the next six points after a Michalak kill to take a 14-12 lead over the Cougars. SIUE cut the Colonel lead to one, 15-14, but could never get any closer and Eastern went on to win the set, 25-21.
