RICHMOND, Ky. – The Eastern Kentucky University soccer team opens the regular season with a pair of contests this week.
 
The Colonels welcome in IUPUI to Richmond on Thursday before traveling to in-state rival Northern Kentucky on Sunday. Thursday's match starts at 4 p.m. while Sunday's contest starts at 7 p.m.
 
Both matches will stream live on ESPN+.
 
 
WHAT TO KNOW
 
EKU (0-0-0) enters the regular season on a high note after knocking off Marshall, 4-3, in its final exhibition of the season on Saturday.
 
The Colonels return key starters in Mica Iacono, Audrey Anderson, Maddy Lemery, Baylee Lanter, and Ali Kirk off last years squad.
 
Freshman Gretta Gunn scored two goals in the exhibition win over Marshall on Saturday.
 
Newcomer Myla Sharpless and Lemery each scored a goal in the win.
 
 
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
 
IUPUI (0-0-0) split a pair of exhibition contests against SIUE and Eastern Illinois.
 
The Jaguars finished last year 5-2-2 before falling in the opening round of the Horizon League Tournament.
 
IUPUI returns two players off last year's team that scored goals and its top goalkeeper from a year ago AP Woodall who posted a 5-1-1 record in goal.
 
NKU (0-0-0) picked up a win in its lone exhibition game against Thomas More.
 
The Norse finished last year 8-1-2 and won the regular season Horizon League title.
 
Northern Kentucky returns seven players off last year's team that scored a goal and its top goalkeeper Mimi Stines.
