RICHMOND, Ky. – Eastern Kentucky University linebacker Matthew Jackson has been named to the Stats Perform FCS Preseason All-America Team. He is a third-team selection.
 
Jackson had a breakout season in 2020, earning Stats Perform FCS second team All-America honors. The redshirt junior from Nashville led EKU with 79 tackles, including 8.0 tackles for a loss and 2.5 sacks.  He had two fumble recoveries and two pass deflections.  He led the nation in the fall in fumbles recovered, ranked ninth in tackles per game (9.9) and was 15th in tackles for a loss per game (1.0). 
 
The 6-2/205-pound linebacker was all over the field. He had 12 tackles at Marshall.  He totaled 11 tackles, including 3.0 for a loss and 1.0 sacks, and recovered a fumble in a win at The Citadel.  Jackson posted a season-best 15 tackles and had two pass break-ups against Houston Baptist.  He totaled 11 tackles in a win over No. 11 Central Arkansas.
 
Jackson was named to the first-ever Preseason All-ASUN Football Team on July 27.
 
The Colonels open the 2021 season on September 4 at Western Carolina.
