@EKUFootball Game Day: Colonels Open Home Slate Saturday Against Indiana State

RICHMOND, Ky. – Eastern Kentucky football makes its home debut in 2021 when the Colonels host Indiana State on Saturday night at Roy Kidd Stadium. 
 
The game will air live on ESPN+ with kickoff scheduled for 7:00 p.m. Greg Stotelmyer will handle play-by-play duties with Jim Tirey serving as the analyst and Wes Chandler working as the sideline reporter. The audio broadcast will also be simulcast in the Richmond area on WCYO 100.7 FM, and can be heard worldwide on EKUSports.com.
 
INSIDE THE SERIES
-  Eastern Kentucky leads the all-time series 7-3. The two teams first met in 1926 when Indiana State won 10-7 in Terre Haute.
 
-  The Colonels are 3-1 all-time against the Sycamores in Richmond, including a 2-1 mark in Roy Kidd Stadium.
 
-  The most recent meeting came in 2019 when EKU dropped a 19-7 decision at Memorial Stadium. 
 
-  The winning team in this series has scored 36 points in three of the 10 meetings. Five contests between the Colonels and Sycamores have been decided by single digits. 
 
THE COLONELS
-  Eastern Kentucky is entering its 53rd season playing its home games at Roy Kidd Stadium. Since 1969, the Colonels have compiled a 229-62-1 record at Roy Kidd Stadium, including 15 unbeaten campaigns at home. 
 
-  EKU is 72-25-6 all-time in home openers and has owns a 44-7 record in home openers played at Roy Kidd Stadium. Dating back to 2009, the Colonels have won 11 of their previous 12 home openers. 
 
-  Eastern Kentucky's last win over a current member of the Missouri Valley Football Conference came on Sept. 10, 2011, when the Colonels defeated Missouri State 28-24. 
 
-  The Colonels are 17-9 in their last 26 contests against non-conference FCS opponents and 11-6 against non-conference FCS foes over the last 10 years. 
 
-  Through the first two games of the season, EKU boasts one of the nation's best third-down defenses. The Colonels have allowed opponents to convert just eight of their 26 third-down opportunities (.308), good for 24th in the country. Only 12 other teams in the FCS who have played at least two games this season have allowed fewer third-down conversions.
 
-  The Colonels' air attack has been one of the country's most effective this season. EKU has completed 69.4 percent of its passes, giving the Colonels the 10th-ranked completion percentage in the nation. Parker McKinney is 41-of-60 through the air this year, while Cord Sandberg completed both of his pass attempts against Louisville.
 
-  Eastern Kentucky has allowed just one sack on the season and has not allowed an opposing defense to record a multi-sack game in its last three contests. The Colonels kept Western Carolina from getting to the quarterback in the season opener and surrendered just one sack to Louisville.
 
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
-  Indiana State enters the weekend with a 1-1 record after beating Eastern Illinois, 26-21, and falling at Northwestern, 24-6.
 
-  Indiana State's defense allowed just 275 yards against Northwestern and surrendered just nine first downs in the second half.
 
-  Quarterback Anthony Thompson has completed 34-of-57 pass attempts to eight different receivers in the 2021 season for 219 yards and one touchdown. Thompson is also second on the team with 11 carries.
 
-  Linebacker Matt Thompson recorded career highs in tackles (11) and tackles for loss (2.0) against Northwestern.
 
-  Indiana State currently sits ninth overall in FCS in punt returns in averaging 8.0 yards per attempt in 2021 season.
