Colonel Volleyball Falls To Liberty

Box Score

NASHVILLE, Tenn. –
Eastern Kentucky fell to Liberty, 3-1, on Saturday in Nashville.

The Flames won by scores of 20-25, 25-18, 25-23 and 25-21.

Molly Michalak posted a match-best 17 kills.  Sarah Mitchell and Anna Purichia added 10 kills each.  Reilly Lowe had six blocks.  Sydney Schoen led the team with 13 digs.

Kate Phillips and Rajin Fitzmaurice contributed 12 kills each for Liberty (6-3, 2-0 ASUN).

The Colonels (4-11, 1-1 ASUN) never trailed in the first set.  A kill by Katie McKune put EKU in front 18-10.  Back-to-back Liberty errors ended the set and staked the Colonels to an early 1-0 lead.

After the Flames tied it by winning the second set, EKU looked to be on its way to taking the lead in the third set.  An ace by Sarah Mitchell and a Liberty error made it 5-1 early.  A kill by Michalak gave Eastern Kentucky a 10-5 advantage.  Liberty tied it five times before the Colonels edged out by three, 18-15, on another kill by Michalak.  However, the Flames scored six straight to take a 21-18 lead.  A kill by Mikayla Logan allowed EKU to tie it 23-23, but Liberty scored the final two points to take the set and the 2-1 lead.

EKU got within one, 19-18, late in the fourth set on a kill from Michalak, but Liberty rolled off a 5-0 run to put a stop to the Colonels' hopes of extending the match to a fifth set.

Eastern Kentucky will face Florida Gulf Coast on Sunday at 1 p.m.  All three matches this weekend are being hosted by ASUN member Lipscomb.
