RICHMOND, Ky. – The Eastern Kentucky University women's and men's cross country teams swept in-state foe Morehead State in a season-opening dual meet on Friday morning at Elmwood, on EKU's campus.
The EKU women won by a margin of 19-36, as the Colonels took the top four spots in the race. Senior
Beighley Ayers won the individual title, covering the course 4K course in a time of 14:52.7. Sophomore
Katy Chapman was second overall in 15:03.0, followed by senior
Saskia Pingpank (15:03.1) and sophomore
Anouk van Gils (15:16.1).
Sophomore
Viola Seromot rounded out EKU's top five at the meet, finishing ninth overall in a time of 15:32.5.
The EKU men went 1-5 to earn a perfect score of 15. Sophomore
Pedro García-Palencia led the way, covering the 5K course in a time of 15:18.2. Right behind him were freshman
Charles Kipchumba (15:18.7) and junior
Joan Tapias (15:19.7). Sophomore
Nikodem Dworczak (15:28.8) and freshman
Ahmed Sayf Kadri (15:40.6) rounded out the Colonels' scoring five on the day.
The EKU cross country teams return to action at the Furman Invitational in Greenville, South Carolina on Saturday, September 11.
