LYNCHBURG, Va. – No. 5 Eastern Kentucky University soccer finds itself in postseason play for the second consecutive season, taking on No. 4 Kennesaw State on Thursday, October 27 in the ASUN Championship quarterfinals at Osborne Stadium on the campus of Liberty University.
The top eight teams in the ASUN regular season standings qualified for the tournament, the Colonels earning the No. 5 seed after results finalized from games around the conference last weekend. The team will head to Liberty, who earned the No. 1 overall seed, and will host for the duration of the championship.
Thursday's match against the Owls (7-8-3, 5-3-2 ASUN) will be aired live on
ESPN+ and
live stats are available on Stat Broadcast for fans looking to get inside access to the contest.
Eastern Kentucky (8-6-2, 4-4-2 ASUN) scored 19 goals on the season, its highest total since the 2018 season. Senior
Maddy Lemery led the way for EKU totaling seven of those frames, earning a career high value and placing herself in the top-10 in program history. The Lake Mary, Fla. native has netted four game-winning goals this season which currently is 16th in the country.
Seven other Colonels have netted at least one goal this season, with multi-goal scorers in
Myla Sharpless (3),
Lucy Ream (2), and
Kylie Fitzgerald (2). Sophomore
Gretta Gunn leads EKU with four assists on the year, through two seasons in maroon she sits top-5 in school history in career assists.
With a win on Thursday against No. 4 Kennesaw State, No. 5 Eastern Kentucky would advance to take on the winner of No. 8 Jacksonville and No. 1 Liberty on Sunday, October 30.
