Colonels Complete Weekend Sweep With Win Over Jacksonville

RICHMOND, Ky. –
EKU completed a weekend sweep with a 3-0 win over Jacksonville on Saturday.
 
The Colonels knocked off North Florida 3-0 on Friday.  EKU dispatched the Dolphins on Saturday by scores of 25-16, 25-22 and 25-23.
 
Sarah Mitchell led Eastern Kentucky (14-12, 5-7 ASUN) with 12 kills.  The junior made only three errors in 29 attacks for a .310 hitting percentage.  She also had 15 digs and a block.  Molly Michalak added 10 kills and 15 digs.  Carson Ledford had three blocks.
 
Three players had nine kills each for the Dolphins (9-15, 3-9 ASUN).
 
The Colonels totaled 41 kills and 15 errors for a .205 attack percentage.  Jacksonville hit .120, finishing with 39 kills and 22 errors.
 
EKU had a three-point lead, 13-10, in the first set before rolling off five unanswered to go in front by eight.  Kills by Michalak and Maddy Campbell made it 18-10.  The Colonels cruised from there to a nine-point win.
 
Jacksonville took a four-point lead three times in the second half of the second set, including 19-15 after a kill from Jenna McNamara.  Eastern Kentucky answered with a 5-1 run to tie it up.  A kill from Campbell followed by a JU error knotted it at 20-20.  Campbell's ace put EKU in front 22-21.  Ledford broke a 22-22 tie with a kill.  AG Vandagriff followed with a kill to reach set-point.  Michalak finished it off on the next series with a kill.
 
The Dolphins fought all the way back from a 10-point deficit in the third set.  A kill from Michalak and a Jacksonville error made it 20-10.  A 13-3 run, capped by an ace from Rebecca Rocassin, tied the score 23-23.  Rocassin served up an error on the next series to hand the home team match-point.  Setter Chloe Mason snuck in a kill to end the set and the match.
 
The Colonels will visit the Sunshine State for two matches next weekend beginning Friday at Florida Gulf Coast.  The road trip wraps up Saturday at Stetson.
