FORT MYERS, Fla. – EKU began its two-match road trip to Florida with a 3-0 loss to Florida Gulf Coast on Friday.

FGCU won by scores of 27-25, 25-11 and 25-14.

The Colonels (14-13, 5-8 ASUN) got off to a quick start in the first set. A kill from
Chloe Mason made it 4-2. A string of six straight by EKU extended a three-point margin to nine. Block assists from
Carson Ledford and
AG Vandagriff capped the run and made it 14-5 in favor of the visitors. Ledford's kill kept the lead at seven, 18-11.Â

The Eagles (20-6, 10-3 ASUN) got back into the match by scoring the next six, and eight of the next nine to tie the score 19-19. Eastern Kentucky reached set-point, 24-21, on a kill from
Molly Michalak. However, FGCU scored the next four points.  Block assists from Juliana Lentz and Lauren Clark ended the first set 27-25 and put Florida Gulf Coast up 1-0.

FGCU took an 11-3 lead to start the second set and rolled to a 25-11 win. The Eagles soared to another 11-3 lead in the third set. An Eastern Kentucky attack error made it 16-6. Erin Shomacker's kill finished off the set and the win.

Michalak had a team-best nine kills and eight digs for EKU. Ledford hit .389 after finishing with eight kills and only one error in 18 attempts.Â
Chloe Mason had 16 assists.

Lily Felts posted a match-best 13 kills for Florida Gulf Coast. Clark totaled nine kills and six blocks.

The road trip ends for the Colonels at Stetson on Saturday at 6 p.m. That match will air live on ESPN+.
