10/30/2022 7:30:00 PM

Box Score LYNCHBURG, Va. – Eastern Kentucky University soccer concludes its 2022 campaign falling to top-seeded Liberty 3-1 in the ASUN Championship semifinals on Sunday afternoon at Osborne Stadium.

The Colonels wrap up a spectacular season which saw the program earn an overall record of 9-7-2 with four wins in conference play. With a record of 5-3-1 at the EKU Soccer Field the team achieved its best home record since the 2016 season.

With the loss, EKU advances to the ASUN Championship semifinals in consecutive seasons as a member of the conference.

In Sunday's match against the Flames, Eastern Kentucky set the tone early and threw Liberty off its gameplan with a goal by sophomore Gretta Gunn in the 6th minute, assisted by Maddy Lemery.

EKU would hold Liberty scoreless and continue their offensive pursuit well into the latter half of the first frame, ultimately halted when Liberty netted the equalizing goal in the 33rd minute by LU's Chloe Marr.

Marr would go on to add another tally less than one minute later, cleverly placing the ball just out of the reach of the EKU keeper for the 2-1 Liberty advantage.

Eastern Kentucky would insert keeper Lauren Seedlock into the contest after the halftime pause to combat the LU attack. After 17 minutes of back-and-forth possession and four Liberty shots, the Flames earned their two-goal lead from Rachel DeRuby in the 63rd.

Liberty prevented EKU from attempting a shot after its third tally, leading both teams to the final whistle and placing the cap on the season for the Colonels.

Liberty ended the contest with the advantage in shots (11-6), shots on goal (4-3), saves (2-1), and corners (4-0).
