Volleyball Falls At Liberty

LYNCHBURG, Va. –
Eastern Kentucky lost 3-0 to Liberty on Friday.  All three sets were decided by three points or less.
 
The Flames won by scores of 25-22, 26-24 and 25-23.
 
The Colonels will conclude the 2022 regular season at home on Sunday against Queens at 1 p.m.  Sunday will be Senior Day and International Student Day at Baptist Health Arena.
 
Molly Michalak led EKU (14-15, 5-10 ASUN) with 14 kills.  She made only four errors in 29 attempts for a .345 attack percentage.  The junior also had five digs and two blocks.  Sarah Mitchell had 10 kills and 10 digs.  Chloe Mason posted a team best 33 assists.  Maddy Campbell contributed six blocks and six kills from the middle.
 
Liberty (20-7, 13-2 ASUN) scored the first nine points of the first set.  The Flames went in front by 10 twice, on an EKU bad set to make it 13-3 and a kill from Kamryn Bacus for a 16-6 lead.  The Colonels didn't fold.  Eastern Kentucky answered with a 15-4 run to get within one.  A kill from Carson Ledford capped a string of six straight and made it a 21-20 match.  With a 24-22 advantage, Bacus ended the first with a kill.
 
EKU jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the second.  Liberty tied it at 7-7, the first of 13 ties in the set.  The Flames took a 20-16 lead late, but the Colonels answered with four straight and tied it, 20-20, on a solo block from Campbell.  A kill from Michalak gave Eastern Kentucky set-point at 24-23, but Liberty scored three straight to take the set and a 2-0 lead.
 
The third set remained close throughout as well, with the score tied 10 times.  A kill from Kate Phillips broke the final tie at 23-23 and gave Liberty match-point.  Lydia Burts followed with a kill to complete the sweep.
 
Bacus led all players with 21 kills and hit .417. 
 
EKU made four fewer errors and had one more ace.  Liberty held an 11-9 advantage in blocks.
