Colonels Drop Road Contest At Jacksonville State

Box Score JACKSONVILLE, Ala. – EKU dropped its final road game of the regular season on Saturday at Jacksonville State, falling 42-17 to the Gamecocks. 

Parker McKinney set EKU's single-season records for pass completions and passing yards in the loss, going 26-of-37 for 309 yards. He now has 253 completions for 3,060 yards this season, breaking his own record of 229 completions last season and Josh Greco's mark of 2,861 yards set in 2005. 

Jacksonville State (8-2, 4-0 ASUN) built a 14-0 lead before Joshua Carter put the Colonels on the board with a one-yard touchdown run with 4:21 left in the second quarter. The Gamecocks scored with five seconds left in the half to take a 21-7 lead into the locker room. 

EKU (6-4, 2-2 ASUN) trimmed the deficit to 21-10 as Patrick Nations converted a 27-yard field goal on the Colonels' first drive of the second half. A JSU touchdown put EKU down by three scores, but the Colonels responded in a flash. McKinney hit Jayden Higgins for gains of 20 and 50 before racing into the end zone from five yards out to make the score 28-17 with 8:55 remaining in the third quarter. 

However, JSU scored the game's final 14 points to wrap up a 42-17 victory.

Matthew Jackson led the Colonel defense with a season-high 14 tackles, while Jett Hendrix tallied a career-high 10 stops. 

Higgins finished with five catches for 89 yards, while Cornelius McCoy caught a game-high six passes for 63 yards. Braedon Sloan led EKU's ground game with 54 yards on 14 carries.

EKU wraps up the regular season next Saturday with a 3:00 p.m. kickoff on Senior Day against Kennesaw State.
