RICHMOND, Ky. – Eastern Kentucky started strong on both ends of the court and rolled to a 122-84 victory over visiting Brescia on Wednesday at Baptist Health Arena.
The Colonels (4-3) started fast, limiting Brescia to 1-for-6 shooting from the field and forcing 11 turnovers through the first eight and a half minutes of the game.
Devontae Blanton's 3-pointer from the right wing capped a 12-0 start for EKU.
Michael Moreno's three from the left corner off a steal by
Tayshawn Comer made it 19-4. Three straight free throws from
Dardan Kapiti, the final two coming with 11:59 on the clock in the first, capped the strong start and gave Eastern Kentucky an 18-point lead at 27-9.
Javion Johnson's lay-up with 11:03 to go in the opening half was just the second field goal of the game for Brescia, cutting it to 27-11.
A 9-0 Colonel run later in the half stretched the margin to 20 for the first time. Blanton scored four of the nine.
Isaiah Cozart's putback made it 46-26. Blanton's jumper capped the run and had the home team ahead 48-26 with 5:04 to go. EKU then ended the half with 11 unanswered.
Jackson Holt's 3-pointer pushed the lead to 30 and sent the Colonels to the locker room up 61-31.
Eastern Kentucky shot 51 percent in the first half. Brescia made 9-of-34 from the field for 27 percent and committed 13 turnovers.
The lead grew to as much as 41 points in the second half.
Michael Wardy's lay-up with 13:51 left in the game stretched it to 87-46.
Blanton led all players with 35 points. He also had seven rebounds. Comer posted his first career double-double, finishing with 13 points and 10 assists to go along with five steals and three rebounds. Holt had a career-best 15 points, making 5-of-8 from 3-point range. Moreno contributed 11 points and eight rebounds.
John Ukomadu also had eight rebounds to go along with eight points.
The Colonels used 12 steals to force 22 Bearcat turnovers. EKU had 29 assists on 44 field goals.
Linkin Lockhart led Brescia with 19 points.
The Colonels will be back in action on Dec. 2 at James Madison. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
