JACKSONVILLE, Ala. – Michael Moreno hit six 3-pointers and scored 23 points, but Eastern Kentucky lost to first-place Jacksonville State, 81-68, on Wednesday.

Moreno hit his first four attempts from deep. His third gave EKU an early 12-11 lead. Moreno's fourth triple got the Colonels within one, 16-15, with 13:30 remaining in the first half. After a bucket and two free throws from
Devontae Blanton, Eastern Kentucky was down just three, 21-19. However, the Gamecocks ceased control of the game with a 15-2 run.Â

Kayne Henry's jumper with 6:13 on the clock in the first put the home team on top 36-21. Â Jacksonville State took a 17-point advantage, 45-28, into the locker room at the break.

The Colonels (12-17, 4-11 ASUN) scored the first four points of the second half to close to within 13. EKU didn't get any closer until Moreno made it an 11-point game, 71-60, with 6:48 left in the game. A 3-pointer from
Cooper Robb drew the visitors to within 11 again with 1:17 showing on the clock.

Moreno finished the game 8-of-16 from the field, grabbed six rebounds and had two steals.Â
Curt Lewis scored 16 points and had three steals. Robb had eight points, six assists and four boards.

Eastern Kentucky shot 38 percent from the field while JSU hit on 58 percent of its shots. EKU had 10 steals on the night, leading to 14 Gamecock turnovers.

Darian Adams led all players with 27 points, on 11-of-18 shooting, for Jacksonville State (19-9, 12-3 ASUN).
