CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – The Eastern Kentucky University softball team split a pair of contests on the final day of the Frost Classic.

The Colonels fell to Northern Illinois, 12-1, before knocking off the host Chattanooga, 11-5, in game two of the day.

In game two, Chattanooga took the early lead over the Colonels. Olivia Lipari led off the bottom of the first with a double down the left field line. After a ground out moved her to third base, Liz Rodenbaugh brought home the first run of the game with an RBI single up the middle.

The Colonel bats took off after that.
Â
Sammi Miller worked a lead off walk to get things started in the top of the third. Miller came home on a
Jasmine Miller RBI single up the middle to tie the game at 1-1.
Ariyana Miranda followed with a double down the left field line to score Miller to give the Colonels the lead for good.

Miranda delivered again in the top of the fifth with her second double of the game, scoring Miller and giving the Colonels a 3-1 advantage.
Carly Robinson brought home Miranda with an RBI single to left field to extend the EKU lead.
Lou Bowers doubled to put runners on second and third. Robinson would later score on a wild pitch, giving EKU a 5-1 lead.

Chattanooga answered back with a two-run home in the bottom of the fifth inning to cut into the Colonel lead, 5-3.

EKU scored three more in the sixth and seventh innings to close out the game against the Mocs.

Jeanay Riley went 3-for-4 on the game. Miranda, Miller, and Robinson each had two hits of their own.
Samantha Reynoso picked up the win in the circle tossing the complete game.

In game one, Northern Illinois scored three in the first inning and three in the second inning to take a commanding lead over the Colonels and didn't look back.

Robinson got the Colonels on the board in the top of the fourth inning with a solo shot to left field.

NIU answered back with two in the fourth and four in the fifth to win the game.

Bella Sanchez each had a hit on the game.

The final day of the Frost Classic was canceled with poor weather conditions in the area. EKU hits the road next weekend to Alabama State for the ASU Invitational. The Colonels take on North Alabama in a non-conference game to open the event on Friday. First-pitch is scheduled for 11 a.m.
