MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Eastern Kentucky University softball team fell in a pair of contests on day one of the Black & Gold Tournament hosted by Alabama State.

The Colonels fell to Nicholls, 6-5, before falling to North Alabama, 8-2, in a non-conference game in game two.

In game one, Nicholls got on the board first scoring one run in the fifth and two runs in the sixth to take a 3-0 lead over Eastern Kentucky.

That's when the EKU bats came alive in the top of the seventh.

Ariyana Miranda got things started with a single up the middle.
Jeanay Riley followed with a single through the left side to put runners on first and second with one out.
Bella Sanchez reached via a hit by pitch to load the bases.
Mattira Morales brought home the first run for EKU with a sacrifice fly to score Miranda and cut into the Nicholls lead, 3-1.
Maggie Pertee walked to reload the bases with two outs in the top of the seventh.
Sammi Miller doubled to left field to clear the bases and give EKU its first lead of the game, 4-3.
Samantha Reynoso followed with a single to left field to score Miller from second and Eastern Kentucky went into the bottom of the seventh leading, 5-3.

Nicholls loaded the bases twice in the bottom of the seventh and pushed three runs across to walk it off against Eastern Kentucky, 6-5.

Miller went 3-for-4 with one double and three RBIs on the game. Miranda, Riley, and Reynoso each had a hit.

In game two, North Alabama took the early lead in the second inning after an RBI double by Harley Stokes with one out brought home Maleah Margett.

The Colonels quickly responded with a run in the bottom of the second. Riley singled to center field to get things started. A hit by pitch and a pair of walks brought home Riley to tie the game at 1-1.

UNA scored four in the third and three in the fourth to take an 8-1 lead and not look back.

EKU scattered five hits on the contest.

Lauren Narvaez tossed four shutout innings in relief, allowing four hits and striking out two.
The Colonels take on the host Alabama State on Saturday at 12:30. EKU wraps up Saturday with a showdown against old OVC foe Eastern Illinois at 8 p.m.
