Colonels Fall To Marshall

RICHMOND, Ky. – Eastern Kentucky dropped a midweek contest to Marshall on Tuesday night at Earle Combs Stadium.

EKU grabbed the early lead as Will King led off the bottom of the second with a single and a ground-rule double from Nico Montes put two Colonels in scoring position with no outs. King scored on a wild pitch and Montes followed on an RBI groundout from Roderick Criss. Ron Franklin tacked on another run with his first homer of the season to put Eastern up 3-0.

Marshall chipped away in the top of the fourth, loading the bases and scoring its first run of the afternoon on a fielder's choice. A single to left field brought home a second run, but the Kendal Ewell's throw cut down the tying run at the plate to keep EKU in front.

The Thundering Herd tied the game in the top of the sixth with a two-out single. Marshall threatened to take the lead, but Vladimir Ceverino came out the bullpen an induced a fly out with the bases loaded.

Marshall took its first lead of the day with a sacrifice fly in the top of the seventh and put the game out of reach with a pair of runs in the eighth and two more in the ninth.

Max Williams led the EKU offense with three hits on the day, while King finished 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored. Bryce Travis (0-1) took the loss on the mound.

EKU squares off against Dayton at home on Wednesday afternoon at 4:00 p.m.
