EKU Softball Falls In A Doubleheader To Liberty To Open ASUN Play

RICHMOND, Ky. –
 The Eastern Kentucky University softball team fell in a pair of contests to Liberty on the first day of ASUN play on Saturday.
 
EKU fell in game one to the Flames, 10-6, before falling in game two, 11-4.
 
Liberty got on the board in the top of the first after three singles to give the Flames an early 1-0 lead in game one.
 
Colonels responded in the bottom half.
 
Sammi Miller led the inning off with an infield single. After the next two batters flew out to the wall in center field, Lou Bowers took the 0-1 pitch over the left center field fence off the indoor facility to give Eastern Kentucky the 2-1 advantage.
 
The Flames pushed an unearned run across in the second inning on a wild pitch to tie the game at 2-2.
 
The Eastern Kentucky bats come alive in the bottom of the fourth. Bowers led off the inning for the Colonels with a single up the middle. Jeanay Riley followed with a home run off the top of the left field foul pole to retake the lead for EKU, 4-2. With one out, Carly Robinson hit her third home run of the season to give EKU the 5-2 lead over the Flames. Samantha Reynoso joined in the home run barrage hitting her first home run of her career to give EKU the 6-2 advantage.
 
Liberty started chipping away in the sixth.
 
Mary Claire Wilson got the Flames started with a single to center field with two outs. Rachel Roupe hit a two-run home to follow to cut the Colonels lead to two, 6-4. The Flames loaded the bases, but Reynoso got a pop out to end the Liberty half of the sixth.
 
Liberty pushed six runs across on four hits in the top of the seventh to retake the lead, 10-6.
 
Bowers, Reynoso, Robinson, and Riley all had a home run on the contest. Bowers went 2-for-2 with two RBIs and a walk.

In game two, the Flames scored seven runs in the first inning and never looked back against the Colonels.
 
EKU tried to chip away starting in the second inning.
 
Robinson sent a two-run home over the left field fence for her second home run of the day to cut the Liberty lead to, 7-2.
 
Eastern Kentucky pushed one run across each in the fourth and the fifth innings to cut the Liberty lead to four, 8-4, but could never get any closer.
 
Liberty pushed three more across in the top of the sixth to extend its lead over the Colonels.
 
Robinson went 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBIs. Seven different Colonels had hits on the contest.
 
EKU wraps up the series on Sunday against the Flames. First-pitch is scheduled for noon.
