RICHMOND, Ky. – The Eastern Kentucky University softball team fell in the series finale to Liberty, 8-1, on Sunday afternoon at Gertrude Hood Field.

The Colonels struck first in the bottom half of the first.

Sammi Miller took the 3-1 pitch down the right field line for a solo home run, her first of the season to give EKU the early 1-0 lead over the Flames.

Liberty quickly responded in the top of the second with back-to-back singles to get things started for the Flames. Rachel Roupe brought home Kara Canetto with a sacrifice fly to left field to tie the game at 1-1.

The Flames took their first lead of the game in the top of the fourth on a two-run home run by Mary Claire Wilson to give Liberty the 3-1 advantage.

Liberty scored one in the fifth and four in the sixth.

Miller had the lone hit for the Colonels.

EKU is off a week before traveling to take on Jacksonville University for a three-game series starting next Saturday. First pitch against the Dolphins is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Saturday.
