Box Score  |  Tickets

RICHMOND, Ky. –
Starting pitcher Rese Brown struck out 10 hitters and allowed just two hits across seven scoreless innings as Eastern Kentucky defeated Bellarmine, 2-0, Saturday afternoon in Richmond.

Brown and closer Will Brian, who pitched the final two, combined for the shutout.

After winning the series opener on Friday, 5-3, EKU has now won its fifth straight weekend series.

The Colonels (16-8, 4-1 ASUN) were held hitless through the first four and two-thirds innings before outfielder Rod Criss singled into center field in the bottom of the fifth.  Sebastian Greico then laced a double into right field to advance Criss to third base.  A wild pitch brought Criss across the plate to give EKU a 1-0 lead.

Logan Thomason provided an insurance run for EKU with an RBI double in the bottom of the eighth inning to score Kendal Ewell.

Brown kept Bellarmine (3-19, 1-4 ASUN) out of the hit column until the fifth inning, when Jack Ockerman recorded a two-out single.  The right-hander also struck out six of seven Knights across the first three innings.

In three starts at Earle Combs Stadium this season, Brown has compiled a 2-0 record with 31 strikeouts and a 1.04 ERA across 17 and one-third innings pitched.

Brian recorded his NCAA-leading 10th save of the season after striking out three over two innings.

Ewell finished 1-for-3 with a walk and one run scored.  Fellow outfielder Ron Franklin Jr. went 1-for-3 with a double.

Bellarmine starter Gavin Braunecker struck out six batters and held the Colonels to five hits en route to notching his first complete game of the season.

The final game of the series is set for Sunday at 1 p.m.  Sunday includes Kids Day, a postgame autograph session and the first of three trading card giveaways.  Kids 12 and under will receive FREE admission and get the chance to run the bases after the game.

For all games this season, each time the Colonels score in the first or second inning fans receive $1 off at the concession stand.
