EKU Softball Travels To Alabama State For The Black And Gold Tournament

RICHMOND, Ky. – The Eastern Kentucky University softball team travels to Montgomery, Alabama this weekend for the Black and Gold Tournament hosted by Alabama State.
 
The Colonels will play five games during the event. EKU plays two games on Friday, two games on Saturday, and one game on Sunday.
 
First pitch against Nicholls is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Friday morning. The Colonels then take on North Alabama in a non-conference game at 12:30 p.m. On Saturday EKU takes on the host Alabama State at 12:30 p.m. before taking on old conference foe Eastern Illinois at 8 p.m. that night. The Colonels wrap up the weekend against Eastern Illinois on Sunday at 12:30 p.m.
 
Inside the Series                                                                                                                   
- Nicholls enters the weekend at 4-11 on the season after the Margi Gras Mambo last weekend. The two teams have split a pair of contests earlier this year. EKU won the first contest between the two teams, 3-2, before falling 10-2 in game two.
 
-North Alabama comes into the weekend at 13-3 after sweeping a pair of midweek games against Samford on Tuesday. The Lions are hitting .350 as a team on the year.  
 
-Alabama State comes in at 7-9 on the season after falling in the midweek to Louisiana Monroe, 4-1. ASU is led offensively by Kindall DeRamus who is has a team-best .444 batting average, with two doubles and eight RBIs.   
 
-Eastern Illinois enters the weekend at 6-9 on the season. The Panthers went 0-5 last weekend at the Mardi Gras Mambo, but nearly knocked off No. 15 Louisiana on the first day of the event losing 3-2 in extra innings.     
 
What EKU Brings:
-EKU comes into the weekend at 2-11 after going 1-2 last weekend at the Frost Classic. The Colonels fell to Southern Illinois and Northern Illinois before knocking off the host Chattanooga, 11-5, on the final day of the event.   
 
-Samantha Reynoso picked up her second win of the year in the circle tossing a complete game against the Mocs.
 
-The Colonels had a season-high 12 hits in the win against Chattanooga on Saturday.
 
-Carly Robinson hit her first home run of the season against Northern Illinois on Saturday.
