RICHMOND, Ky. – Richmond native
Logan Thomason belted a 3-run home run in the bottom of the first inning to power Eastern Kentucky to a 4-1 victory over Bowling Green on Friday at Earle Combs Stadium.
The three-game series will conclude with a doubleheader on Saturday at 2 p.m. Saturday will be Kids Day. All kids 12 and under will receive FREE admission and get to run the bases after the second game.
The Falcons (2-5) opened the game with leadoff home run from Adam Fallon before Thomason's blast put the Colonels (5-5) ahead in the bottom of the frame.
Thomason tallied season highs in hits and RBIs with three apiece. The shortstop also treated fans to an impressive day defensively, including a diving stop that robbed a hit from the Falcons in the fifth inning.
The remainder of the game proved to be a pitcher's duel, as
Kendal Ewell's RBI single to plate Connor Davis in the fifth inning finished the scoring for both sides.
Relievers
Jordan Fox and
Garrett Langrell combined for three scoreless innings before
Will Brian entered the game in the ninth inning. Brian struck out two in the ninth to shut the door on BGSU and collect his second save of the season.
Ewell finished 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI.
Starter
Michael Schuler struck out three and allowed just two hits over five innings en route to his first win as a Colonel.
Fallon finished 1-for-5 with a run scored and an RBI for the Falcons.
