MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Eastern Kentucky University softball team split a pair of contests on day two of the Black & Gold Tournament hosted by Alabama State.

The Colonels fell to Alabama State, 3-1, before knocking off Eastern Illinois, 13-11, in game two on the day.
Â
In game two, the Colonels scored eight in the bottom of the first and three in the bottom of the second to take a commanding lead over Eastern Illinois.

Sammi Miller walked to get things started in the bottom of the first.
Samantha Reynoso followed with a single to right field and advanced to second on the throw to put runners on second and third with no one out.
Carly Robinson brought home the first run of the game for the Colonels with a sacrifice fly to left field. With two outs
Maggie Pertee doubled to right field to bring home Reynoso and give the Colonels the lead. EKU worked five straight walks and Reynoso doubled into the left center gap to clear the bases and put the Colonels up, 8-1, after an inning.

Back-to-back singles and an error loaded the bases with no one out for the Colonels in the bottom of the second. A walk, fielders' choice and a single pushed three more runs across for EKU to put them up double-digits, 11-1, after two innings.

Eastern Illinois pushed one across in the first and third innings.
Â
The Panthers kept chipping away pushing three across in the fourth and four in the fifth to get within striking distance of the Colonels.

EIU tied the game up in the top of the sixth on a two RBI single by Megan Burton to make the game, 11-11.

Robinson sent the Colonels home in style taking a 2-2 pitch to dead center field for a walk off two-run home run in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Reynoso went 3-for-5 with one double and three RBIs. Pertee with 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI. Robinson chipped in a 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBIs.

In game one, EKU got on the board first in the top of the fifth inning.

Freshman
Maggie Pertee led the inning off with her first-career home run to give the Colonels a 1-0 lead over Alabama State.
Gracie Frazier doubled down the left field line to put a runner in scoring position, but EKU could not add on to its lead. Â

Alabama State answered back in the bottom half with two outs.
Â
The Hornets recorded four straight hits to take lead over EKU for good, 3-1.

Lauren Narvaez made her first career start in the circle tossing five innings, allowing three runs, and striking out four.
Kaitlyn Young tossed a scoreless inning in relief.

EKU wraps up the event on Sunday against Eastern Illinois. First pitch is scheduled for 12:30 p.m.
