MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Eastern Kentucky University softball team fell to Eastern Illinois, 6-3, on the final day of the Black & Gold Tournament hosted by Alabama State.  
 
The Colonels got on the board first in the top of the second. 
Ariyana Miranda got things started with a double to lead off the inning. After a sacrifice bunt moved Miranda to third, 
Lou Bowers brought home the first run of the game with a sacrifice fly.
 
Eastern Illinois answered back in the bottom half of the second inning with a two-run home run to give the Panthers the lead, 2-1.
 
EKU quickly answered in the top half of the third inning. With two outs, 
Sammi Miller worked a walk to get things started. 
Samantha Reynoso and 
Carly Robinson followed with a pair of singles to score Miller and tie the game, 2-2.
 
Again, in the top of the fifth the top of the order did its job. With two outs, three straight hits from Miller, Reynoso, and Robinson brought home a run and gave the Colonels the lead back, 3-2.
 
The Panther responded with three in the bottom of the fifth and one in the bottom of the sixth to take the lead over the Colonels for good.
 
Miranda, Reynoso, and Robinson each had two hits on the contest. Miller and 
Maggie Pertee each chipped in a hit on the day.
 
EKU hits the diamond next Friday at the University of Kentucky. The Colonels take on Valparaiso and Buffalo at John Cropp Stadium before traveling to Louisville for Saturday and Sunday.
