RICHMOND, Ky. – Eastern Kentucky softball used a walk-off single from
Sammi Miller in game one and a seven-RBI performance from
Carly Robinson in game two to claim its first ASUN series victory with a pair of wins over Stetson on Saturday afternoon at Gertrude Hood Field.
After falling behind 2-0 in the third inning of game one, sacrifice flies from
Maggie Pertee and
Lou Bowers knotted the score in the bottom of the inning. Bowers put EKU (7-24, 3-5 ASUN) ahead in the bottom of the fifth, doubling home
Jeanay Riley to put the Colonels up 3-2.
Stetson (14-22, 4-4 ASUN) plated the tying run in the top of the seventh and EKU left runners on second and third in the bottom of the frame to send the contest to extra innings. After
Kaitlyn Young kept the Hatters scoreless in the top of the eighth,
Jasmine Miller came off the bench to draw a one-out walk. Miller advanced into scoring position on
Samantha Reynoso's sacrifice bunt and raced home on Miller's single to left field, giving the Colonels a 4-3 victory.
Young (1-2) worked 4.0 relief innings to earn the win, limiting Stetson to one run on three hits with one strikeout.
Robinson's three-run homer opened the scoring in game two and
Miranda Lopez added an RBI single to put Eastern up 4-0 in the bottom of the first. Robinson struck again in the second, launching a grand slam to left-center field to push EKU's lead to 8-0.
Riley doubled home Miller in the bottom of the third and a sacrifice fly and a throwing error allowed two more Colonels to score in the inning, giving EKU an 11-0 advantage.
Lauren Narvaez (3-2) twirled a two-hit shutout, striking out three in 5.0 innings of work.
EKU will look to complete the sweep on Sunday afternoon as series wraps with a 1:00 p.m. contest.
