RICHMOND, Ky. – The Eastern Kentucky University softball team fell in the series finale to Stetson University, 4-3, on Sunday in Richmond.

Juls Schumacher got the Hatters on the board in the top of the third with a solo home run down the left field line to give Stetson the 1-0 lead. The Hatters added on to their lead in the top of the fourth with a bases loaded two RBI single up the middle to give Stetson the 3-0 advantage after three and a half innings.

Carly Robinson got the Colonels on the board with a solo home run off the scoreboard in the bottom of the fourth inning. It was Robinsons third home run of the series.

The Colonels kept chipping away at the Stetson lead in the bottom of the sixth. Robinson worked a lead off walk to get things started for EKU. Amanda Sjoberg came on to pinch run for her and came around to score from first base on a double off the wall by
Isabella Gonzalez to cut the Stetson lead to one, 3-2.

Stetson got an insurance run in the top of the seventh on a solo home run by Schumacher, her second of the game to give Stetson the 4-2 lead.

EKU loaded the bases with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Maggie Pertee scored on the passed ball to cut the lead back to one, 4-3, and put the tying run on third and the winning run on second base. But a fly ball to right field ended the comeback threat for the Colonels.

Ariyana Miranda and
Sammi Miller each had a hit on the contest.

Kaitlyn Young tossed three and two-third innings in relief allowing one run and four hits.

The Colonels midweek games against Northern Kentucky has been postponed until later in the season because of NKU having to make up conference games during the week.

EKU hits the road next weekend for a three-game series against Jacksonville State starting next Saturday. First-pitch against the Gamecocks is scheduled for 2 p.m.
