RICHMOND, Ky. – The Eastern Kentucky University softball team cruised to a doubleheader sweep of Bellarmine University on Saturday in Louisville.

EKU won the first game 10-3, before knocking off the Knights, 11-3 in game two of the doubleheader.

The Colonels wasted no time getting on the board in the top of the first.
Jeanay Riley worked a one out walk to get things started.
Maggie Pertee followed with her second home run of the season down the left field line to give EKU the early lead, 2-0.
Jasmine Miller took the 1-0 pitch into the left center gap to put a runner on second with one out.
Lou Bowers followed with a single to center field to put runners on the corner.Â
Vianna Barron kept the inning going with a single through the left side to score Bowers and the Colonels took a 3-0 advantage after the first inning.

EKU added four more in the top of the third inning.

Bowers led the inning off with a walk to get things started.
Carly Robinson got hit to follow to put runners on first and second with no one out. Barron picked up her second hit and RBI of the game with a single up the middle to score
Samantha Reynoso from second base. With one out,
Ariyana Miranda doubled into the right center gap to score two more to give the Colonels a 6-0 lead. Riley brought home one more in the third with a single to center field.

Bellarmine got two back in the bottom half of the third inning on a two-run home run to left center field.

A bases load walk and two RBI double by
Carly Robinson in the top of the sixth gave the Colonels a 10-2 lead over the Knights.

Barron went 2-for-4 with two RBIs on the game. The Colonels had eight hits on the contest.

Reynoso started in the circle tossing four innings, allowing two runs, and striking out two.
Kaitlyn Young picked up the save tossing the final three innings of the game.

In game two, the Colonels put up a four spot in the top of the second and never looked back against the Knights. Â

Jasmine Miller got things started with a hit by pitch. Bowers singled to right field to put runners on the corner with no one out. After a ground out put two runners in scoring position, Miranda single to the short stop to bring home the first run of the game.
Mattira Morales followed with a double to right field to score Bowers and give the Colonels a 2-0 lead. A wild pitch and a solo home run by Reynoso gave the Colonels a 4-0 lead heading to the bottom of the second. Â

The Knights got two back in the bottom of the fourth on three hits, all being singles.

EKU answered back with five runs in the top of the fifth hitting on three hits to give the Colonels the commanding 9-2 advantage over Bellarmine.

Eastern Kentucky pushed two more across in the top of the sixth on an RBI double by Bowers and sacrifice fly by Barron to put the run rule into play. Bellarmine got one back in the bottom half, but it was not enough to extend the game.

Lauren Narvaez picked up the win in the circle tossing five innings, allowing two runs, and striking out two.

EKU goes for the series sweep tomorrow against Bellarmine. First-pitch against the Knights is scheduled for noon.
