NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Eastern Kentucky University softball team swept a doubleheader against Lipscomb University on Saturday in Nashville.

EKU won the first game 16-7, before knocking off the Bisons, 3-1 in game two of the doubleheader.

The Colonels took the early lead over the Bisons wasting no time in the top of the first inning.
Sammi Miller worked a lead off walk to get things started.
Maggie Pertee got hit on the first pitch of her at-bat to put two runners on with one out.
Jasmine Miller delivered the first blow of the game hitting a three-run home run to left center field to give EKU a 3-0 lead.

Lipscomb got one back in the bottom half of the first inning after loading the bases with one out. A sacrifice fly brought home the first run of the game for the Bisons to cut into the EKU lead.

EKU again caused damage in the top of the second inning.

Carly Robinson walked on four straight pitches to lead off the inning.
Ariyana Miranda reached on an infield single to put runners on first and second with no one out.
Mattira Morales wasted no time taking the first pitch she saw over the left center field fence for a three-run home run to give the Colonels a 6-1 advantage.
Jasmine Miller did more damage with a single to right field to score
Jeanay Riley from second base to increase the lead to 7-1.
Lou Bowers joined the fun with a single up the middle to score Miller from second and give EKU the 8-1 lead.

The Bisons started chipping away in the bottom of the second. Lipscomb loaded the bases again in the second but could only push one across on a sacrifice fly to center field. Lipscomb got five runs in the bottom half of the third inning, the big hit being a two RBI double by Elise Shewmaker to cut the Colonel lead down to one, 8-7, after three full innings off play.

Eastern Kentucky answered back quickly in the top of the fourth. With a runner on second and two outs,
Jasmine Miller hit her second home run of the game this time a two-run home run to center field to push the lead to 10-7. Bowers followed with a walk to put a runner on first and
Vianna Barron hit a two-run home run to left center field to extend the Colonel lead back to five, 12-7. It was the team's fourth home run of the game.

The Colonels added one in the sixth and three more in the seventh, highlighted by a
Maggie Pertee two-run bomb, the team's fifth home run of the game to give the Colonels the commanding lead.

Lauren Narvaez picked up the win in the circle tossing four and one-third innings in relief. The freshman allowed one hit and struck out three.

Jasmine Miller went 3-for-3 with two home runs and six RBIs.
Sammi Miller, Pertee, and Robinson each had two hits on the game.

Game two was a pitcher's duel in Nashville.

Lipscomb got on the board first in the bottom half of the fifth inning on a solo home run by Meghan Kline, her second hit of the season to give Lipscomb the 1-0 lead.

The Colonels answered back with the long ball, a solo home run to right center field by
Lou Bowers to tie the game at, 1-1. It was the Colonels sixth home run of the day.

Sammi Miller led off the top of the eighth inning taking the first pitch she saw into the left center field gap for a double.
Jeanay Riley followed with a bunt single to put runners on the corners with no one out.
Maggie Pertee followed with a single to left field to score Miller and give the Colonels a 2-1 lead.
Jasmine Miller worked a walk to load the base with no one out. Bowers followed with a sacrifice fly to right field to score another run and give the Colonels a 3-1 advantage.

Narvaez picked up the win in game two of the doubleheader tossing a complete game, allowing one run, and striking out three.

The Colonels have won five straight conference games and move into fourth in the ASUN West standings.

EKU goes for the series sweep on Sunday in Nashville. First-pitch against the Bisons is scheduled for 2 p.m.
