Brown Pitches 2-Hit Complete Game Shutout To Send Colonels To ASUN Tournament

Box Score

CONWAY, Ark. –
Rese Brown pitched a 2-hit, complete game shutout and the Colonels hit three home runs in a 5-0 victory at Central Arkansas on Friday.

With the win, EKU (34-19, 19-10 ASUN) clinches a spot in the 2022 ASUN Conference Baseball Tournament next week in Fort Myers, Florida.  The Colonels can also win or share the 2022 ASUN West Division Championship depending on the outcome of games on the last day of the regular season.

Due to thunderstorms expected Saturday afternoon, the series finale against Central Arkansas has been moved to 9 a.m.

Eastern Kentucky's 34 wins matches the 2004 team for the most victories in a season since the 1999 squad won 35.

Brown threw 110 pitches over nine innings.  He walked two and struck out six on his way to improving to 6-3 this season.  He retired the first nine batters he faced.  After an infield single to start the sixth inning, the sophomore recorded 12 straight outs, including five via strikeout.

Logan Thomason's two-out solo home run in the top of the first proved to be all the Colonels would need.  After a double by Charlie Ludwick to start the fourth, Conner Davis followed with a home run over the wall in left field to make it 3-0.  Max Williams started the seventh with a home run for a 4-0 EKU lead.

Thomason scored on a single by Ludwick later in the seventh to set the final score.

Williams finished 2-for-5 with a run and an RBI.  Thomason was 1-for-3 with two walks, two runs and an RBI.  Ludwick had two hits in four at bats, scored once and drove in a run.  Davis was 1-for-4 with a run and two RBIs.

Central Arkansas drops to 24-28 and 18-11 in the ASUN.  EKU and Lipscomb will start the final day of the regular season tied for first at 19-10.  Jacksonville State joins UCA at one game back with an 18-11 mark.
