RICHMOND, Ky. – The EKU football team completed its second scrimmage of fall camp on Saturday afternoon at
Roy Kidd Stadium, 13 days before the Colonels kick off the season at Eastern Michigan.
EKU's defense set the tone early with a pair of fourth-down stops before forcing a punt on the third possession of the day. The offense found the end zone on its fourth drive when
Joshua Carter scored on a six-yard touchdown run.
Austin Welch added a 32-yard field goal two drives later and the offense notched its first score through the air on the next possession when
Brady Clark hit
Camden Williams in the back of the end zone for an 18-yard touchdown.
The offense looked poised to score again when
Richtell McCallister rumbled 58 yards to the seven-yard line, but the defense responded with a goal line stand, turning the offense away on fourth down at the one-yard line.
EKU's offense put together its best drive of the day in the second half of the scrimmage. Driving from the shadow of its own goal line, the Colonels covered the length of the field as
Parker McKinney found
Jaden Smith down the seam. Smith shook free from a defender and raced to the end zone for a 45-yard touchdown completion that capped a 99-yard drive.
Patrick Nations and Welch each connected on a pair of 45-yard field goals and the offense's final touchdown of the day came on a 50-yard strike from
Matt Shearer to
Jayden Higgins.
