RICHMOND, Ky. – Eastern Kentuckyfell 3-0 to visiting Lipscomb in the ASUN Conference opener for both teams on Friday at McBrayer Arena.

The Bisons won by scores of 25-14, 25-18 and 25-22.

The Colonels will wrap up the first weekend of conference play on Saturday against Austin Peay at 2 p.m. Saturday will be Special Olympics Day at the match and include an EKU volleyball t-shirt giveaway.

Sarah Mitchell had seven kills and one error for Eastern Kentucky (8-6, 0-1 ASUN).Â
Josie Schmitendorf totaled 13 digs. Â Caroline Stogner finished with a match-best 13 kills to go along with a .310 attack percentage for the Bisons (4-8, 1-0 ASUN).Â

Lipscomb finished with 50 kills and a .299 team attack percentage. The Colonels had just 30 kills and hit .176 for the match.

With the first set tied 10-10, Lipscomb seized control with a 7-1 run. A kill from Berkley Mischler and an EKU error made it 17-11 in favor of the Bisons. An ace from Libby Steinhart ended the first set and gave Lipscomb a 1-0 lead.

In the second set, an ace from
Maddy Campbell put the Colonels in front 11-10. However, the Bisons scored six of the next seven to build a four-point edge, 16-12. A kill from Meg Mersman made it a five-point lead, 20-15. Jada DiVita's kill ended the set 25-18.

EKU fell behind 22-17 in the third before staging a late rally. Four straight by the Colonels, including kills from
AG Vandagriff and
Katie McKune, brought Eastern Kentucky within one at 22-21. The Bisons righted the ship and scored three of the next four to close out the match.
