Box Score 2 RICHMOND, Ky. – The EKU men's tennis team (1-1) earned their first win since 2018 against Campbellsville, winning 6-1 after losing in a tough battle to NKU, 4-3 on Wednesday inside the Greg Adams Tennis Center.
The Colonels and the Norse battled it out in doubles with the Colonels striking first after
Kristoffer Stahlbrand and
Zach White picked up a win from the No. 2 position.
Paul-Antoine Brazet and
Arthur Bugeaud dropped shortly after from the No. 3 spot, leaving the doubles point up to the No. 1 matchup.
Moritz Mayer and J. Anurag Reddy fought hard, but they lost to match, 7-5, giving the Norse the advantage as they entered singles competition.
Bugeaud was the first Colonel to fall, dropping his match in straight sets to Josef Zapletal, 6-2, 6-1.
Stahlbrand, Mayer, and Reddy won their matches in two sets from the top three spots in the lineup.
White dropped his match in straight sets to Emilio Bravo, 7-5, 6-2.
NKU clinched the match by taking down Brazet in a three-set thriller from the No. 5 spot.
Shortly after, EKU welcomed Campbellsville to the Greg Adams Tennis Center.
The Maroon and White came out of the gate hot, claiming the doubles portion over the Tigers with wins from the No. 1 and No. 2 spots. Stahlbrand and White dominated again as they won 6-1 and Mayer and Reddy clinched the doubles point for EKU, winning 6-4.
Stahlbrand was the first Colonel to finish in singles, winning in dominant fashion, 6-0, 6-1.
Then, Mayer, Bugeaud, Reddy, and Brazet won their singles matches to put the Colonels at six points to win the match.
"I thought we competed very well today. Once we get a chance to work on some of the fundamentals, I think we will see some different outcomes in close matches like these," head coach
Adam Cohen said.

The Colonels will have three days off from competition before facing off against in-state foe Louisville at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center on Sunday, Jan. 22 at 5:00 p.m.
