FRISCO, Texas – 2012 EKU women's golf graduate Katie Wiedmar, a two-time WGCA All-American Scholar during her time in the maroon and white, is the recipient of the 2023 PGA of America Merchandiser of the Year - Private Category, the first PGA National Award winner in EKU program history.

The award recognizes PGA Professionals who have excelled in business and merchandising in the promotion of golf.

Katie's approach to merchandising is focused on recognizing member preferences. Working at Winged Foot Golf Club for the past 10 years and developing relationships with members has boosted her ability to understand their style and tendencies, allowing her to formulate a buying plan for respective members.

Wiedmar departed Richmond in 2012 after helping the Colonels to 10 top-3 finishes and two first place results.

She etched her name in the EKU record book on Sept. 9, 2011 at the Great Smokies Intercollegiate, shooting a round of 71, tied for 8th in program history for a single round low score. The round helped her finish the 36 Hole Tournament with a score of 144 and the individual champion, the 5th lowest score in program history.

After graduating from the EKU PGA Golf Management program, Katie accepted an internship with Winged Foot GC in Mamaroneck, N.Y and worked her way into a full-time role as the first woman to serve as Golf Shop Manager and First Assistant with the club.

Wiedmar was instrumental in working with the USGA in preparation for the 2020 U.S. Open Championship. She received her MBA from Iona University in 2020.
