RICHMOND, Ky. – EKU football will host five home games, play two FBS opponents, and face two teams that competed in the 2022 FCS playoffs this fall when the Colonels kick off their 111th season.
As previously announced, EKU will play six games as part of the ASUN-WAC partnership to earn an automatic bid to the NCAA FCS Playoffs. The Colonels will host Tarleton (Oct. 14), Austin Peay (Nov. 4), and Stephen F. Austin (Nov. 18), while traveling to North Alabama (Sept. 30), Utah Tech (Oct. 28), and Central Arkansas (Nov. 11).
The season opener will be on Sept. 2 as EKU visits Cincinnati for the first time since 2008. The Colonels will be facing an FBS opponent for the 24th consecutive season and will be opening the season on the road for the fourth straight year.
EKU will then travel to Lexington to face Kentucky on Sept. 9, giving the Colonels multiple games against FBS foes for the 13th time in program history and the eighth time in the last 10 seasons. EKU will be renewing its series with the Wildcats for the first time since 2017.
The Colonels will begin their 55th season at CG Bank Field at Roy Kidd Stadium on Sept. 16 against Western Carolina. EKU will be tangling with the Catamounts for the third time in four seasons.
EKU's last test before ASUN-WAC play comes on Sept. 23 when the Colonels play host to defending OVC champion Southeast Missouri. The Colonels beat the Redhawks 28-23 on the road last season and will be hosting their former conference foe for the first time since 2018.
The Colonels' final non-conference game of the season is on Oct. 21 as EKU travels to Gardner-Webb for a rematch of last year's first-round FCS playoff contest. EKU has never faced the Runnin' Bulldogs in the regular season and will be making just its third trip to the state of North Carolina in the last nine years.
