Soccer Returns for Final Home Stand Against Stetson, FGCU

Seeking Berth to ASUN Championship

RICHMOND, Ky. – The Eastern Kentucky University soccer team returns home after a two-match road stand to face Stetson and Florida Gulf Coast on Thursday and Sunday at the EKU Soccer Field.
 
The Colonels (4-7-4, 3-2-3 ASUN) will open this week's play against Stetson (1-11-3, 1-5-2 ASUN) on Thursday at 4:00 p.m. ET. The match is the team's annual pink game, fans are encouraged to show their support by wearing pink.
 
EKU's final home match of the regular season is Sunday against FGCU (8-4-3, 5-1-2 ASUN) at noon. Entering the week, sets up a match between the No. 3 and No. 4 teams in the Atlantic Sun Conference.
 
Both games are scheduled to be streamed on ESPN+ with Greg Stotelmyer and Wes Chandler on the call.
 
EKU is coming off a 2-1 loss to Central Arkansas last Sunday. Freshman winger Paula Herranz netted her second goal of the season in the 78th minute.
 
Through 15 games, senior Maia Ransom leads the squad with 21 shots and eight shots on goal. The Fairlawn, Ohio native had a season-high seven shots in EKU's last home match against Jacksonville.
 
During EKU's road trip last week, the Colonels attempted 30 shots en route to one goal. In the team's last three matches, EKU has recorded 17 corner attempts to total 65 on the season – its most in over two seasons.
 
With a win over Stetson and a Kennesaw State loss on Thursday, EKU would clinch a berth to the 2023 ASUN Championship to be played later this month. A berth to the championship would mark EKU's third consecutive season qualifying for the event. 
 
Last season, EKU became the first ASUN member institution to advance in the tournament in their first two years as a member of the conference in over 24 years.
