FLORENCE, Ala. – EKU soccer ends its run at the ASUN Tournament with a loss to No. 8 seed Queens by a score of 0-0 (4-2 PKs) on Thursday night at the Bill Jones Athletic Complex.
EKU concludes its season in the ASUN Tournament for the third consecutive year. The Colonels had reached the semifinals in their first two seasons as a member of the league, only the second school in conference history to accomplish the feat.
The Colonels outshot Queens 25-5 (13-2 on goal) and attempted 12 corner kicks to Queens one. The Royals were down a player for over 100 minutes in Thursday's match after earning a red card 10 ticks into the contest for denying an EKU goal opportunity.
Leading the match for EKU was junior forward
Gretta Gunn, who attempted a career-high six shots, four on target. She ends the year as EKU's program leader in total assists (13) and tied the single-season assist record at five. Senior midfielder
Kylie Fitzgerald followed with five shots in the match.
Queens' keeper Erica Turner was the overall highlight in Thursday's match, she had 13 saves and denied two of EKU's penalty attempts after the second overtime.
EKU recorded 60 percent of possession after 110 minutes of play. The Colonels 25 shots were the second most this season by the club.
