FLORENCE, Ala. – The Eastern Kentucky University soccer team played North Alabama to a nil-nil draw on Thursday night at the Bill Jones Athletic Complex.
With the result, EKU (4-6-4, 3-1-3 ASUN) has gained one or more points in its last six Atlantic Sun Conference fixtures. The Colonels remain in fourth place in the league table with 12 points.
Freshman winger
Paula Herranz led the squad in Thursday's draw with three shots, two of which were on frame. Her two shots on target against North Alabama marked her career-high value.
Keeper
Marah Krick led the defensive effort with four saves on nine faced shots. The Glenmoore, Pa. native has recorded clean sheets in four of her last five matches.
EKU had its opportunities to claim the advantage in the draw, beginning with a
Jami Anderson shot off target in the 10th minute that went wide left hitting off the post from the one-on-one scenario.
In the next four minutes of play,
Nerea de Diego and Herranz attempted additional shots on frame that were saved by UNA's Adriana Wright, who led the contest with five saves.
Out of the halftime break, EKU had its second chance to take the lead as EKU sent a ball in the box off a corner that found
Chiara Premoli who attempted a shot that hit off Herranz inside the six-yard box and cleared by the UNA backline.
The Colonels attempted three shots in the final 40 minutes of action to end Thursday's battle in a scoreless draw for their second consecutive match.
EKU returns to action on Sunday with a meeting in Conway, Ark. against Central Arkansas. The match is set to begin at 1 p.m. ET and will be aired on ESPN+.
