NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Eastern Kentucky University took a 2-1 lead at Lipscomb, but couldn't hold off a comeback from the Bisons and fell 3-2 on Friday in Nashville.
AG Vandagriff led five Colonels who had 10 or more kills, finishing with 16.
Kambree Lucas had 15 kills and 14 digs.
Sarah Mitchell finished with 12 kills.
Paige Wagers and
Carson Ledford had 10 kills each.
EKU (14-3, 4-1 ASUN) had five fewer errors than the Bisons (10-5, 5-0 ASUN). Lipscomb recorded eight more kills, four more aces and three more blocks.
A kill from Vandagriff gave the Colonels a 23-21 lead in the first set, but the Bisons scored the final four points to take the first set 25-23. Vandagriff broke a 22-22 tie in the second set with a kill. Moments later the sophomore recorded another kill to finish the set 25-23 and tie the match at 1-1.
With the third set tied 4-4, back-to-back Lipscomb errors and a Vandagriff kill allowed the Colonels to roll off three straight and the visitors led the rest of the third. EKU won it 25-20 on a Lipscomb error.
A kill from Mitchell in the fourth got the Colonels to within one, 21-20, but the Bisons scored the final four to take the set, 25-20, and tie the match 2-2.
Lipscomb scored four of the first five points in the fifth and rolled to a 15-11 win.
EKU will conclude its road trip on Saturday at Austin Peay. First serve is scheduled for 3 p.m. ET.
