CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – After having its 13-match winning streak snapped on Friday, Eastern Kentucky University rebounded with a 3-0 win over Austin Peay on Saturday.
The Colonels (15-3, 5-1 ASUN) recorded 11 aces in the match. EKU out-hit the Governors .300 to .175. The visitors finished with 45 kills and only 12 errors.
AG Vandagriff led the winners with 12 kills, no errors, a .545 attack percentage and three blocks.
Chloe Mason had four aces, 17 assists and 10 digs.
Katie McKune had eight kills and no errors with a .571 attack percentage.
Paige Wagers registered seven kills.
Trailing 8-7 in the first set, the Colonels ripped off an 8-1 run to take control.
Madi Tolzman's kill capped it and put EKU in front 15-9. A kill from Wagers and a bad APSU set finished off the opening frame 25-16.
The second set was tied 17-17 until the Colonels scored six unanswered. A Vandagriff kill and a Governor error made it 23-17. The same sequence – a Vandagriff kill and an APSU error – ended the set 25-20.
A 13-2 EKU run in the third turned a 7-6 lead into a 20-8 advantage. Tolzman finished the run with a kill. McKune finished the match with a kill, wrapping up the third set 25-18.
Mikayla Powell had 11 kills for the Governors (9-10, 2-4 ASUN).
The Colonels will fly to Jacksonville next weekend for matches against North Florida on Friday and Jacksonville University on Saturday.
