Walker Scores 38 Points, EKU Downs Evansville 77-75 on the Road

Sixth Highest Single Game Point Total in EKUWBB History

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – EKU's Antwainette Walker hit 15 field goals that led to a career-high 38 points as the Colonels completed a 77-75 come-from-behind win over Evansville on Wednesday night at Meeks Family Fieldhouse.

Walker's 38 points were the sixth most by an EKU student-athlete in the program's history, tying Jaree Goodin's mark set on Valentine's Day in 1990. Wednesday's game is the second time in her career she's gone over 30 points in a single game.

With the win, EKU moves to 4-0 to open its season for the first time since 1994.

Guards Brie Crittendon (11) and Ivy Turner (10) found themselves in double-figure points for the third consecutive game. Crittendon and Sierra McCullough led the squad with seven rebounds apiece.

Walker scored five points in the first quarter with the addition of two three-pointers from Alice Recanati and Althea Kara Angeles to claim a slow-paced period at 15-11.

A seven-point Evansville swing to open the second quarter put the home team ahead 18-11. The Purple Aces run was halted by a Walker three, her first out of four makes on the night, to even the contest at 18 all.

Evansville and EKU traded baskets to well under the media timeout, the Colonels were unable to match a 4-2 run by their opposition and the Aces went to the locker room up two, 28-26.

The Colonels opened up the second half 11-7 run of two Walker three-pointers, two made layups, and a Bridgid Fox pair of three throws. Two more Walker layups and a Turner three gave EKU a 46-44 lead as both teams entered the under-five media timeout. A Crittendon three-point shot sealed a 57-50 lead entering the last quarter.

Walker, Recanati, and Turner made jumpers to keep the Colonels at a double-digit lead at the 8:17 mark. Evansville went on a 7-0 run to the media timeout to bring the game to five points at 64-59.

From the media timeout to the end of the game, three Colonels were given their fifth personal foul and were forced to checkout. Two Walker buckets and two charges with less than a minute to go in the contest secured the win in EKU's favor, 77-75.

Despite EKU leading the game in made field goals and three-pointers, Evansville claimed a wide 33-18 advantage in total free throws. UE also led the game in rebounds by nine, the first game this season the Colonels ended up on the wrong side of the final tally.

EKU will continue its road swing into the weekend heading to Anchorage, Alaska to compete in the 2023 ASRC/ConocoPhillips Great Alaska Shootout from Nov. 18-19. The Colonels are scheduled to open against UAB on Saturday at 9:15 p.m. EST. The team will then advance to face either No. 4 Utah or host school Alaska Anchorage in the championship or consolation contest.

All four games of the Great Alaska Shootout will be streamed live on YouTube. For more information about the event, click here.
